Indonesian Finger Trap by OtaniFumetsu Indonesian Finger Trap by OtaniFumetsu
Please insert finger.

This is my newest addition. A tokay gecko. Mean as mean can be. I'm completely enamored with him. They're like the lizard equivalent of a pitbull, and once they get ahold of your hand, good luck getting him to let go. Oh, and they bark. /win

My lil bro wanted one for awhile but we convinced him to go for the tamer leopard gecko. after being with us for about five years the lil guy died after a long struggle with intestinal issues due to the sand in his cage. That's at least what we think happened. We have gotten two cresties named Tom and Jerry as the new ones, They are very *hoppy* living with us. So are the Tokays as vicious as I've heard? I heard that if they had proper teeth they'd bite your fingers off.

Hah, they definitely have teeth in there. And they're kinda like a pit bull, when once they latch on, its like a vice grip. Try and get him off and they just chomp that much harder.

But that's not always the case. The thing with tokay's is that they are extremely defensive and have no fear in attacking anything they perceive as a threat (i.e the giant thing trying to get in their cage). My tokay now, compared to when I got him is a completely different lizard. The trick is patience. Lots of it, and forming a trust bond. Tokay's are clever. Not dog-smart, but smarter than the cresteds. Once you have a bond with it, and it trusts you they are amazing pets!

I have a Tokay, but I've never heard him bark and he hasn't bitten me... yet...
He actually allows me to pet him when he's in a good mood... 8I
...and I was looking forward to having a jerk lizard... lol

Haha, lucky! Mine has tamed down alot, and I dont get bitten much anymore. But he's a noisy little guy! He barks at everything, even when I mist the cage at night he barks at the water. :XD:

Mine hides from the spray bottle-- haha~
He's not much of a Tokay in my opinion...:XD: I think my Leopard geckos make more noise with their scratching, and my Beardie has an attitude problem and constantly bites me... |D Whatever~ He was a year old when I got him, so maybe that has something to do with it...

Tokays are notoriously known for their vicious attitudes, I think its their beautiful patterning that makes people go for them. Me, I was attracted just as much to their asshole personality. :XD:

Taming is a very slow process, but possible. I'm working on it steadily. Takes alot of patience!

They're also really stunning when they're in their 'cool' colors. Almost black/navy with the red spots. I'll try and get a pic sometime for contrast. :3

They're all bite, and a little bark. Haha, if you get a tokay you'll get very used to being chomped on. :XD:

I had one years ago. he was mean too. I needed to put on leather gloves before I put my hand in the tank! But they are SO gorgeous, what the heck. I would get another just for the beauty. I didn't know they made noise though and the first time he did, it freaked me out! He was mean and noisy and beautiful! Overall, I think I like the cresties a lot better! Good luck with your new addition!

As of yet, he's too small to break skin. So I'm going to "TRY" and tame him down. At least to the point where he doesnt go completely berserk when I open the cage. He even goes nuts when I mist the enclosure, barking at the water bottle. Goofball. :XD:

Sometimes I just like having a pet with 'attitude'. :P

I think they are just beautiful. i don't mind the attitude at all. I just used leather gloves when I put my hand in the cage. That solved the problem.
